throw that dictionary out the window.

it occurred to me today that the true purpose of the dictionary is just to be a guide. when you say something to someone, whatever Webster has written down has only partial value because what takes over, is another person's interpretation of the word. this is why humans will continue to argue until the end of time. people's understanding of a word is more impacted by their past experiences, because they tend to associate words with certain feelings or events that they have shared experiences with. does that make sense? i think if more people looked at it like that, there would be less arguing and more acceptance of differences. because then its not an issue of being right or wrong, its just an issue of having different beliefs. people get scared when they feel their "beliefs" are being threatened which I think is the root of most arguments.
