life is all about the journey.
the end result is never as satisfying as how you got there. So enjoy the journey to any goal, long term or short term. big or small, just enjoy life as it comes at you. If you can't enjoy the journey of life you, you will never be satisfied with your life.
Whacko and Jacko.

I got these two gold fish back in August, who i named "Whacko" and "Jacko." Nobody really expected them to live that long, but I never really understood why they couldn't. So they have been my pets for about 5months now and they were still living in these little bowls. They swim around and make little noises, it's really very peaceful to look at. So now it was time to move them up into a new home, and finally have them together so they could enjoy each other. At first they were scared of all these new elements but now they are swimming around like they own the place, which turns out to be a pretty accurate assement on their parts. Even when these two pets do pass, I plan on continuing the use of this tank with new pets.

it needs to stop snowing.

I legit have not worked in the past 3 days because of the snow. and for some reason they decided not to plow the roads correctly, and to do a half ass job. I think it's because the towns are not getting as much money from the government and their budget is decreasing, thus they have to cut jobs. either way Wednesday it will be over 40 degrees and the snow will begin to melt. peace out snow!

Back to The Roots.
This was the first time I have seen The Roots but what a great show these guys put on. It was really interesting for me to see such a great show out of my realm of normal shows that I usually see. These guys are so funky and are really great musicians. Not to mention the plethora of cameo artists who came out including non other than Talib Kweli himself. Even though the show was at BB King Club in NYC, it felt like I was in a blues house somewhere in the south in the 1950s. Great vibe in that place.
The Roots to me is what Hip Hop should be. I think that if more hip hop artists were more similar to the Roots, they would be way more accepted by everyone and less shunned for lyrics and what not. Surely rap has become a big part of pop music but a lot of society puts down hip hop for its negativity, crudeness and lack of real musical talent. The Roots defy all of those barriers that stand in hip hops way.

If you don't know what it is, it's a wonderful site that offers free web and business development to 501c3 Non profit Organizations, mostly charities. They get them a website, domain name, virtual office, etc. I basically love it!
Searching For Skylines.
Last night, I went to a show with a bunch of indie pop bands. The last band was a band I have been seeing for years now, Searching For Skylines. It's prob the biggest local band from my town. They've been going at it for probably about 6 years(maybe more). These guys basically are the veterans of my local music scene. It was a really fun show and I got to hang out with a lot of my friends, old and new.<3 At the end, they played one of their old songs Anticipatient and even brought their old singer on stage for it. What a great day for Cortlandt Manor NY ....haha
ok yes, im a social extremist.
It really bothers me when people talk out against affirmative action, and say its unfair. People think that minorities just aren't "trying hard enough" or they just expect everything to be handed to them, which is not the case. Next time you hear someone say that, ask them exactly what else they expect them to do? I mean really drill into them and get to the source of what they want them to do. Ultimately something racist will come out as hard as they might try not for it to come out. It's so ignorant to act like minorities do not struggle more than white people and hense work much harder. Problem is that a lot of people are hesitant to give up their "white privilege," everyone acts like they think everyone is equal but when it comes down to it they want to have a "1up" over other groups. Why are people so unaccepting?

work for what you earn. a status.
Since our economy is spiraling down, its become increasingly hard to find a job and start a career at this point in time. I recently heard a story about a kid who has a MBA and is driving taxis in the city. Now thats pretty discouraging but what makes people have such desire to have a good job? Obviously you need money to survive but its really way more than that. Our society defines people by what they do, not their education only but what career they pursue. That's the most common way to evaluate someone's status. If you own a huge house people are impressed but if they find out you also work delivering packages for UPS, they instantly see you in a different light. What about ethics? Is it not more important to others if you have good morals and a good heart? If only we could buy things with heart, now there's a society I want to be a part of.
why must it end?
It makes me really sad when I listen to a band and realize that they have broken up. Especially any punk or hardcore bands because I know that there will not be any kids going to see them at a show and screaming along, which is really the point. The bands I'm thinking of particularly are Folly and Hot Cross, but also extends to The Blood Brothers and Modern Life is War. Why must good music end?

Phantom on the Horizon

SO...after all of these years of waiting, I have finally gotten my hands the re-mastered version of the Fall of Troy's legendary tracks, the Ghostship demos. Phantoms on the Horizon had a lot to live up to because the original demos were just a few songs that the band really let loose on, and showed their true artistic ability. The concept of these songs is a story of a ghost ship that gets attacked by dark monsters and all the chaos that takes place.
After finally hearing it, I fell in love all over again. it's a little different and not quite as dark and abstract as the original but nevertheless great. The band took a much more mature approach to the album and i think the results speak for themselves. Their talent is really undeniable and i think its especially impressive since they are a 3-piece. The guitar work is top notch and their versatility really opens your mind. basically i love it.
if i had to critique anything, i would have liked the album to retain some of the darkness from the originals, and the art of it. But they added a little more soul to the album which i thought gave another aspect to an already experimental album. go check them out if you can handle it!
overanalyzing and balance.
Last night, I met up with one of my childhood friends who i hadn't seen in years. it was great to see him now and realize that we have both grown up to think similarly. we had a great conversation, one which i really enjoyed, about the human brain and how obsessive it can become. the point was that the human brain is a very powerful thing and the scariest part is that it is hard to stop. people get obsessed with something and over analyze it to death until they have examined every single experience and dissected it. but one of the most critical parts to having success at something is having that lack luster, the ability to sit back and see things objectively from afar and be confident. when you get too into analyzing something, you lose that intangible and makes you somewhat less successful. so its important to be knowledgeable but also very balanced in life. does that make sense?
it's official.
yep, today the US economy is officially in a recession. I have heard over and over again how things are going to get much worse before they get better. So what does that mean? can our country really fall so much so fast? and even more than financially, i have noticed a depression throughout americans mental state. it seems like everyone is upset now and struggling. even my elders who i once saw as people who would never have to worry again since they've made their living. all i know is it's going to be a long depressing winter.
music elitists.
its really bothersome to me how many people flood online forums and message boards boasting about their apparent music knowledge and putting down others in the process. if you ever call these people out on it, they get so defensive, thats how you know they dont know anything. people try to act like they know everything about music, but the truth is there is no universal understanding of music. thats why music is great, it means different things to different people. the only music that should be put down is the music that denounces creativity. even if i dont like a certain artist, but they are doing something creative, i still give them credit, and dont blindly bash them. people are so close minded, ugh.
yeah i think i am quite knowledgeable on music but i dont pretend to know everything. its impossible to do so. music is about understanding, not knowing the name of every band and song titles.
