This was the first time I have seen The Roots but what a great show these guys put on. It was really interesting for me to see such a great show out of my realm of normal shows that I usually see. These guys are so funky and are really great musicians. Not to mention the plethora of cameo artists who came out including non other than Talib Kweli himself. Even though the show was at BB King Club in NYC, it felt like I was in a blues house somewhere in the south in the 1950s. Great vibe in that place.
The Roots to me is what Hip Hop should be. I think that if more hip hop artists were more similar to the Roots, they would be way more accepted by everyone and less shunned for lyrics and what not. Surely rap has become a big part of pop music but a lot of society puts down hip hop for its negativity, crudeness and lack of real musical talent. The Roots defy all of those barriers that stand in hip hops way.
