Point Mugu

So this Saturday morning, I woke up and went on a hike again with the girl. It was 11.3 miles, and was a beautiful area. I've never seen mountains so exposed.

Landing

So yesterday I landed in Los Angeles, and it's a beautiful city. Of course the process of flying here, not so beautiful. I missed my flight at 7am and had to wait 4 hours for the next flight. It didn't really bother me, I just hung out in the airport and tried to not think about the intense hangover that attacked both my head and stomach.

Finally it was time to take off and I boarded the flight. Up until this point I had not felt any kind of nervous, but sitting on the soon to be departing plane, it started to hit me. I quickly realized I was flying 3,000 miles away from everything I've known and I was introduced to the sweat in my palms. The sick feeling in my stomach from the night before did not help, nor did having the middle seat. Needless to say, the flight was less than entertaining and I kept the "barf bag" within safe distance at all times. But as soon as the plane left the ground, so did all of my concerns. I know myself well and I know it's always easier for me to run away, but once a certain point crossed, I can accept anything.

Landing in Los Angeles was a different story. After retrieving my bags, which caught the flight that I missed, I stepped outside and saw this...

I made it, I was in California.

After, my cousin took me back to her apartment and showed me where I'd be staying. The apartment is awesome and here is a pic from the porch.

After driving around with my cousin, I caught up with a special someone for dinner and a stroll down the 3rd Street Promenade and along the Santa Monica Pier. To be continued...

upstate

Haven't wrote in a few days, but not much has happened. I have spent the past few days at my parents' house. Nothing has really happened, it's cold, it's quiet, it's dull. I will report back with some pics.

the farewell tour continues...

So as Thursday approaches, Tuesday night follows the trend of ridiculous nights in the final days before the move. After going out to the 4th Ave. Pub in Boerum Hill, some friends invited me to come back to their apartment and "tokey toke". We wound up riding bikes around Prospect Park until 1am. Here is a picture of the ride as well as some pics from the day in my neighborhood.

"Scott II" riding ahead up ahead of me.

Final Days in Brooklyn

So a little over a year, a few new close friends, 14 metrocards and 2 goldfish later, I have decided to move out of Brooklyn. I'm not breaking up with the city completely, we will continue to keep in touch and remain close friends. But as for now, my new lover is awaiting about 3,000 miles west and goes by the name, Los Angeles.

Here's the short of it: my job has become unstable and my lease is ending, which I took as an omen to follow my desires out west. On October 7th, I will be traveling to Culver City to stay with my family in LA. My two cousins, Alyse and Jackie, have decided they wish to subject themselves to my antics for an indefinite amount of time.

So I'm going to record the upcoming times as best I can (at the request of a certain friend) starting with my final days in Brooklyn. Three days stand between me and the departure from my apartment in Bushwick. It has been such a wonderful experience and I have met so many wonderful new people, and I will never forget this chapter of my life. So yesterday I spent the day drinking and watching football and concluded with a great dinner with close friends.

It's really been an exciting past couple weeks. Everyone has been so supportive and has really shown me how appreciated I am. I'm not sure what the west coast has in store for me, but I guess we'll find out together.

hunting.

I wait for days, even years in this tree stand.

Hoping that the game will come my way.

I must remain quiet and patient for what seems like a lifetime,

as the snow falls on my stiff, cold fingers.

Alone in a tree stand, your thoughts start to wonder.

Through all this waiting, and lonesomeness I think about the hunt.

I want to gain an edge, increase my chances of encounter.

I think about the challenges of this game.

After all, don't want to leave these woods empty handed.

The thing about it is,

you cannot outsmart it.

It finds you when the time is right,

and hides from you when you look for it too avidly.

Myth recommends traps and lures,

but no method can guarantee a catch.

Sometimes the harder you look,

the less likely you are to cross it.

A certain amount of apathy and unexpectedness is required.

It varies in speed and strength,

and is a master of disguise.

No one knows for sure its appearance,

but it is perfectly clear when you attain it.

That's when you realize,

you're not in a tree stand at all.

Health care reform? Makes sense to me.

Portugal. The Man - Dead Dog

One of my favorite bands.

Octoberman - Thirty Reasons

Good songwriting always gets a thumbs up in my book. To me it's like if Conor Oberst had a better voice...
